this might seem like a silly question, but I believe my Maxi is stock standard
ie the trim is all original
Is there a way of telling what colour it is (other than grey) ??
Would this be decodable from the "Service Schedule Vehicle Data" information quite like paint colour ?
I would like to purchase a few parts etc and see some parts have the same part number but have options for colours
for example, top mount dash stowage compartment
2K5858329 - normal (grey ??)
2K5858329 75R - Anthracite
how would I know which colour I currently have and which colour I would need to order to continue with the existing trim I have ??

I believe caddys from 2004-2010 is art grey (lightly coloured)

Things may be different over there but in the UK vw commercial will email you your build sheet at no cost, your paint code will be on that.

I have a breakdown of VIN and the spec sheet which looks like a DNA sample on the service handbook
But all the numbers mean zip to me
I wonder if the same "build sheet" is available in Australia ?
Would I ask for just that ?

The sheet contains what are known as PR codes.
These can be decoded with the help of an online page you can find with your preferred search engine. Look for "VW PR decoder".

Yes, and sometimes even with the VW description of the code it is still a bit of a mystery !
