2015 1.6 TDI Injectors - Replace them all or move on....

Post by dazautomatics »

Hi Guys

We have our 2015 102 PS Startline Tech SE Pool Van which we have had for 7 years with about 130 on the clock and is still in mint condition, everybody loves it, however the van is not used much, and this is going through injectors too frequently and can't be trusted. Could I ask as I would rather not lose the van as we have had this a long time, had lots of new parts over the years and drives like new. Would the injector issue go away if we purchased 4 new injectors from VW and had the fuel system professionally cleaned out by a diesel specialist or would it be better to let it go?

I understand the injectors are an issue with the 1.6 but we have had a mixture of new (Quality aftermarket) and reconditioned injectors in the past and as the van can be stationary for a few weeks at a time and one is failing every 1000 miles or so (5 Months)

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks :-)

As far as I understand (and there's a long thread about it) what fails on those injectors is the piezo stack. That's the electrical bit that commands the injector, which by the way is not in contact with any diesel. So i don't think cleaning the fuel system is gonna make any difference.
Also, as far as I know, the problem with those injectors was rectified after 2014 so I wouldn't use reconditioned ones.

In my opinion, if your van is killing new injectors every 1000 miles then the problem is somewhere else. Maybe wiring, maybe the ECU, I have no idea. But I don't see how fuel quality or not using the van much could possibly damage the electrical part of the injectors.

i hope you can access it:

I have to agree. My van is a 2015 1.6 BlueMotion and is on 116k, never had an injector failure, from new. I know the van from when it was bought new and got it from the company who first owned it, not once has any of them failed.

Pre 2014 injectors had a manufacturing fault of some kind and they fixed it with an improved piezo stack so the failures after that were almost non existent.

Even the bad early ones lasted more than 1000 miles so something else must be wrong.
