So I finally bought a VW after a lifetime of BMW ownership.

Not quite what I had in mind a few years ago, but the needs must, and I needed to buy a van.

2016 ex BG with 77k on the clock.
Runs and drives smoothly, basic on the inside, and a few bodywork issues on the outside.

First job today, racking removal.

Took about 2 hours, so many bolts, and you need to break it down in sections to get it out.

Yeah definitely, I spend a lot of time in it so it's definitely worth the money and effort.

Installed a jet rack, brilliant if you're an electrician, takes a 6 foot step ladder, and stores it up in the roof.

My fuel filter is better than your fuel filter.

Installed a conduit and trunking transportation device, otherwise known as a square gutter with end caps. Strapped to the ceiling with 4mm black cable and 2x wagos.

My van is a 2.0, but had a fuel contamination problem, most certainly when I bought it, but took a few months to start causing issues.

On investigation, the fuel filter, rail and fuel injectors were just caked in rust fragments, which I believe came from the fuel rail itself.

After spending a good chunk of the kids inheritance on a new fuel rail and injectors, I wanted to safe guard what I'd changed and found out that lots of American guys use CAT diesel filters, which filter contaminants down to 2 micron in size, instead of the VW standard of 10, and no doubt last longer than a VW filter as a CAT earth mover uses a lot more diesel.

I bought a second fuel filter housing from ebay, removed and binned the housing, and kept the mounting bracket. Sourced jubilee clips to hold the CAT filter to the bracket, sourced the filter top and hose connectors from ebay, and swapped it all for the standard filter.

If anything ever happens with fuel again, the injectors and rail are protected.
