Dash usb

I have just got myself a mk4 caddy and the usb by the gearstick Isn’t charging my phone, is there a fuse or is this usb linked to the back of the head unit ?

Probably head unit audio input so it won't charge your phone mate. Not enough output.

Is it actually connected to anything?

It should charge the phone no problem, mine certainly does. You can pull up the tray and check if the cable is connected.

I took mine out and disassembled for a good clean as it was not working for either audio or charging. Now works fine. There is a VW part number on it and a search on eBay will bring up replacements for £30. It's not just a socket. It has an audio decoder circuit too.

Nick it’s a standard head unit, I’ve lifted up the tray and the cables are connected
