Indicator click randomly stopped

Post by tetrode »

I was driving today and it started off normal, but halfway through the trip the clicking sound that the indicators make when you initiate them stopped happening, and hasn't happened since.

I got home and confirmed that all the indicator lights were working, as well as the lights on the dash to tell you which side is currently flashing, so the clicking sound seems to be the only thing that's stopped working.

Any ideas what's happened and how to fix?

It's likely that the sound is generated by the central electronics module under the steering wheel area, above the fuse panel. Never heard of this issue happening before, but anything can fail of course. Might be worth a peek in there, looking for something with a little grille to allow sound output, or a battery reset may sort it.

(Disconnect the battery and wait ten mins, then reconnect and see if it comes back. This would cold boot all modules again from scratch. With the battery connected, nothing ever truly goes off or restarts. It's just in low power / quiet mode.)

You will get a steering error led from this but it will disappear on driving or turning steering lock to lock. This is because the steering angle sensor has lost count of where it was last, when booted from cold.
