Coolant temeperature gauge problem

Post by strizek »

Hi, I have a question. Should the Caddy 2016 2.0 TDI DFSD have two water temperature sensors? One on the radiator and one on the engine block?

I have one problem, the temperature has been climbing to 90 the entire time I've had it and it's been holding there on the gauges and not moving. When I bought it, I found it strange that, compared to the Peugeot 406, when the water didn't heat up at all on the way to work, this car always had 90 at work. It seemed strange to me, but I didn't solve it, since there were no errors anywhere and everything worked as it should.

But yesterday I was driving home from work at a home and within half a minute the temperature rose from ninety to 110 and the sahara started to cool. Then it dropped back to 90. I stopped and went shopping for about 20 minutes. I start it again and the temperature is immediately 90 after starting and within a minute it's about 110 again and the sahara. So I started to monitor it more.

This morning I'm driving from home to my work - 5 km, at a very leisurely pace. I'm watching the needle, which I didn't do before. First 1 km the needle is down, then suddenly the needle rose to 90 within 10 seconds and stayed there.

Otherwise, yesterday I thought the car was boiling, I stopped, the level in the container is correct, after opening the container only a slight hiss and no water jets and the like. All the hoses are at operating temperature to the touch. I turned on the heater and it also heated normally. But I was also driving freely, there would have to be some blockage in the engine for something to have 110.

So a sensor or cable is probably faulty. The diagnostics don't report any errors, so it's probably not the cable. Which sensor would you suggest is causing the problem?

Or could it be something else, like a clogged one or the like?

Different cars handle this differently.

On a winters day in my MK1 focus, if I went straight on the motorway (around 2 miles from my house) without having to sit in traffic and drove 2 hours to somewhere, the temp would sometimes never come fully up. it was a 1.8 endura engine and without air con had 3 radiators, the heater would work OK but on the dial the temperature would never fully come up.

My Mazda 6 estate would do the same thing but the heater would be crappy for a while.

My mazda 6 MPS will do a similar thing but the heater will work from cold.

The Caddy (2014) 1.6 diesel, the heater works after a minute of turning over. it then works perfectly until i turn it off. the temperature gauge will take about 15 minutes to come up to temperature fully (90 degrees) and will then never move.

So from what ive been able to work out is that different cars handle it in different ways. My Bro had a Pug 306 sedan that had a heater that would take your skin off, my 1986 jetta was similar.

Same with my 1.6 caddy, it heats up really quick and you get heat in a minute or two, and it will hit 90 within a mile or two in mild weather and 4 miles in winter. The previous Citroen bingo 1.6 HDi took 10 miles to hit 90 in winter.

Since I work 5 miles from home I noticed the difference in the Caddy in wintertime. Way better. It has a set of blinds on the back of the radiator, not sure if that's why.
