Extra rear panel ??

Could someone tell me what these extra metal panels are in my caddy maxi please

I’m not sure weather to take them out and carpet u beneath them or do them and underneath ?

I'm not 100% certain, but they look like a cosmetic extra
If u were to remove them you would see the inside of the exterior skin / panel with the framework
This option like you have would be much easier I imagine to sound deaden, insulate and cover .....
That said, the inside of the exterior skin / panel would still be the offending resonator so that may possibly need to be sound deadened ...
Just my opinion so seek others advice (personally never seen them before, but hey, I'm in Australia and we do most things upside down anyways lol)

As an additional thought, maybe this is installed so you can secure racking etc to this instead of the van ???

Makes 100 percent sense that it may be for racking as theis can is an ex British Gas fleet van
